Image result for dean martin drunk on johnny carson

Hey pallies, likes we're likes just 'bout at the half-way mark to our reverent remembrance of Dino-departure Day, December 25, 1995 and this Dino-day, December 12 is not only the anniversary of the birthday of our Dino's bestest of best pallie, Mr. Frank Sinatra, but also 'nother swankly significant day in all of Dino-history.

Likes it was on December 12, in the year of our Dino 1975, that our most beloved Dino appeared on "The Tonight Show" with host Johnny Carson in what were probably his more memorable moments appearin' on late night television.  Below is the youtube vid of the intriguin' interview that Mr. Carson coolly conducted with our King of Cool.  This particular vid is one of several shared on youtube and as of scribin' this, this vid has had OVER  2 MILLION 350 THOUSAND HITS!

What makes this swank segment of our Dino patterin' with Mr. Carson and Mr. Bob Hope so incredibly intriguin'  is that it appears that our main man had been enjoyin' liberal liquid libations before comin' on the show....indeed our  Dino appears to actually be stoned and we get to experience  Drunky Dino.  As Dino-philes all know, our Dino most often played drunk in his 'Vegas baby 'Vegas night club act 'n on the Dino-show, usually havin' apple juice in his glass, just makin' like he's drunk.  But, likes in this appearance by our Dino has been partyin' before he would later attend Mr. Sinatra's birthday party.   So, sit back and enjoys our swingin' Dino under the influence....with no holds barred!

This trio of classic comedy "The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast" Volumes 1-3 comes to digital for the first time.

A new generation gets an opportunity to watch the hilarious celebrity roasts which inspire the Comedy Central Celebrity roasts.

Never Before Available on Any Digital Platform, Each 9-Roast Volume
Will Be Available for $14.99; Individual Episodes Are $1.99

This fall, Dino goes digital with "THE BEST OF THE DEAN MARTIN CELEBRITY ROASTS: VOLUMES 1-3."

Never before released on any digital platform, the Roastmaster General will be available exclusively on iTunes beginning Dec. 11, with three "Best of" compilation releases priced at $14.99; individual episodes will be available for $1.99 each.

The classic TV archivists at Time Life will release additional digital content throughout 2018 and beyond.

What originally began as one-off specials to boost ratings for his variety show, "The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts" evolved into a fixture on NBC's Thursday night lineup from 1973 to 1984.

Across those 11 years, Dean, Rat Pack Royalty and his panel of celebrity pals successfully ridiculed, embarrassed and made fun of Tinsletown giants like Johnny Carson, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason, Don Rickles and Martin himself, to name a few, and America ate it up.

Anybody with thick skin and a good agent was fair game, and Martin was a legendary ringleader who set the tone and encouraged the freewheeling spirit that makes these roasts still so fascinating, even decades later.

Each volume of "THE BEST OF THE DEAN MARTIN CELEBRITY ROASTS" features 9 uproarious episodes.

VOLUME 1 features complete and unedited roasts of Bob Hope, Sammy Davis Jr., Telly Savalas, Michael Landon, Angie Dickinson, Joe Garagiola, Peter Marshall, Joe Namath and even a roast of Dean Martin.

VOLUME 2 includes roasts of Lucille Ball, Jackie Gleason, Betty White, Ted Knight, Jimmy Stewart, Valerie Harper, Danny Thomas, Dan Haggerty and Suzanne Somers.

VOLUME 3 features Muhammad Ali, Redd Foxx, Evel Knievel, George Burns, Dennis Weaver, Gabe Kaplan, Jack Klugman, Joan Collins and the second roast of Michael Landon. Home viewers are sure to howl over the bashing and basting of so many celebrities by a spectacular array of the day's top personalities.

"THE BEST OF THE DEAN MARTIN CELEBRITY ROASTS: VOLUMES 1-3" joins "THE BEST OF THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, VOLUMES 1-4" also available on iTunes; and, throughout 2018, Time Life will release additional TV classics on the platform.

C'mon now ladies!
I mean this COOL COOL cat even brought his own corn for poppin'!!! Hahaha!!!

Yes Sir!
That's my Dino!

Well...If I know our BESTEST & SMOOTHEST pal... likes I thinks I do...then he's gonna be "goodbyin"...'til ALL the poppin' corn has been popped & that delightful fire has flickered it's last flickerin' flicker!!!

Man, It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I brought some corn for poppin'
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

And, my dear, we're still good-bye-in'
But as long as you love me so

When we finally kiss good-night
How I'll hate goin' out in the storm
But if you really grab me tight

All I Want Is DINO: Factory Sealed! - Dean Martin - The Nashville Sessions - 1983

Hey pallies, likes  welcome back to Day 8, yet 'nother delightful day of Dino-winter season here at ilovedinomartin as we move day by day to Dino-departure-day.....the 25th of December....the day that our Dino departed our planet in 1995.   Likes, one of the thin's that we most enjoy doin' in preparation for this reverent remembrance of our Dino's passin' is to search the ol' world wide web for delightful Dino-giftin' idears, many of which are easy on the pocketbook, but would be awesomely appreciated by Dino-philes of all ages and stages.  So,   likes today we wanna shares with you a Dino-treasure that we are powerfully positive that simply a ton of Dino-holics woulda loves to be gifted with this Dino-season.

From the incredibly  intriguin' internet sales site, "Etsy" comes the offerin' of the vinyl recordin' of our Dino's last disc tagged "Dean Martin - The Nashville Sessions," released by Warner Brothers in 1983.  This is the only major Dino-al-b-um that has yet to be released in CD format, and we woulda guess is somewhat rare to come across.   As you will note below, it is bein' offered by a chick whose sales site is tagged "Missysvinyl."

This particular al-b-um is "factory sealed" meanin' that it oughta be in mint condition with only " a minor saw cut top right of album," meanin' that it was originally sold as a cutout.  Hard for those of us deeply devoted to our Dino to think that his last recordin' woulda ever reached the closeout status of a "cutout."  And, likes as you will note pallies, it's a beautiful bargain at only $9.99 plus shippin'.

Likes as we have never owned this original al-b-um ourselves, we would be deeply deeply delighted to have it gifted to us this Dino-winter season for Dino-sure.  To checks this offer out at it's original site, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-gram.  And, we simply can't resist sharin' one more time, that greatest of great vid of our Dino, indeed our most beloved Dino's only MTV vid recordin' of  "Since I Met You Baby" directed by his youngest boypallie Ricci James who recently himself passed from this life.  So, below is a pristine version of that remarkable recordin'.

25 Days Of Christmas Songs: Day 5

Hello, Vixens!!!  Welcome back to the countdown!!!
(Original source unknown).
Growing up in an Italian family meant certain things were a given:  Pasta and church on Sunday, no meat on Friday and this man’s music for the holidays.
But he did so much more than sing.  He was in the original “Ocean’s 11”, one of my favorite disaster movies (“Airport”) and two of my favorite guilty pleasure shows (“Charlie’s Angels” & “Vegas”).  That is in addition to his many TV specials, celebrity roasts, dozens of movies and numerous albums.
Nicknamed “The King of Cool”, Dino Paul Crocetti was also a member of “The Rat Pack” and one half of the comedy team Martin and Lewis.  He sang a multitude of Christmas songs throughout his career, but this one is my favorite (followed very closely by “It’s A Marshmallow World“).
The Dean Martin Variety Show
Dean Martin circa 1970 (original source unknown).
Dean Martin:  “Let It Snow“.
I do not own the rights to anything.  I am just sharing some things that I love with you   πŸ™‚
What are some of your favorite Christmas songs?
Until next time, fellow Vixens, happy listening!!!

It's a marshmallow world in the winter
When the snow comes to cover the ground
It's the time for play, it's a whipped cream day
I wait for it the whole year round.

Those are marshmallow clouds being friendly
In the arms of the evergreen trees
And the sun is red like a pumpkin head
It's shining so your nose wont freeze.

The world is your snowball, see how it grows
That's how it goes whenever it snows
The world is your snowball just for a song
Get out and roll it along

It's a yum-yummy world made for sweethearts
Take a walk with your favorite girl
It's a sugar date, what if spring is late
In winter it's a marshmallow world.

Hey pallies, the ol' world wide web continues to be a genuine goldmine completely chocked full of great Dino-treasure just waitin' to be marvelously mined....and that's a huge huge reason we here at ilovedinomartin keeps doin' our best to uncover more and more Dino-devotion for all youse Dino-philes.    Some years 'go at this time, while doin' some extra credit Dino-searchin' via google blog search we happened upon the rarest of rare Dino-find of some laviously  live croonin' of our most beloved Dino and his bestest of best pallie Mr. Frank Sinatra on November 30, 1956.

First posted on the blog "Crooks And Liars" on December 31, 2009, it took us almost five years to uncover this fantastic find of this  recordin' of our most beloved Dino singin' a trio of classic croons for the Hungarian Relief Concert with Sinatra also doin' some solo work.  All-in-all there is almost 22 minutes of sensational singin'.   Likes, 'cause this is a remarkably rare Dino-discovery  we are plannin' to share this on an annual basis.

We loves how this refreshin'  recordin' begins with the unnamed announcer graciously  givin' our great great man the purest of pure praise, sayin' "This fella is going to be on the, I think, one of the finest leading men we've ever seen around this town, and he is going to come out here now, and lead you all to a lot of happiness.   And, likes indeed our Dino lovin'ly  lays likes just  a ton of huge huge happiness on the crowd as he sings "All Of Me," "Innamorata," and "Is It True What They Say About Dixie."

Our Dino mentions that it was producer Mr. Joe Pasternak who coaxed his appearance, which let's us know that the concert was around the time that our Dino's first major big screen effort, "Ten Thousand Bedrooms" was bein' released as Pasternak was the producer for that effort.

We are likes totally totally thrilled to be able to share this with all youse Dino-holics, just wishes that it hadn't taken so so long to uncover.  Also, as you will read  below the sharer of this Dino-treasure, Mr. Gordon Skene discovered "the master tapes from the concert)  sitting on a shelf in a garage the better part of forty years before I got the call to "take the junk away".

We wanna express our deepest of deep Dino-appreciato to Skene for sharin' this huge huge Dino-discovery with his readership and eventually with all youse pallies.  Likes makes us be in wholehearted wonderment of  what more Dino-gold is out there waitin' to be mined.  To checks this out in it's original format, simply clicks on the tag of this here Dino-report.  And, likes sometimes pallies the vid we have placed below chooses not to function....if this happens to you, simply click on the tag of this Dino-post to listen at the original site.

Newstalgia New Years Eve Music Special - Dean Martin - Frank Sinatra - Hungarian Relief Concert 1956

I can't think of a better way to end up the year than with a special, rare, never-heard-before performance of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin (not together unfortunately, but Dino's in fine form) from the Hungarian Relief Fundraiser put on in Los Angeles on November 30, 1956.

For some reason, this recording has never been issued anywhere - the master tapes sitting on a shelf in a garage the better part of forty years before I got the call to "take the junk away".
Dean had just broken up his act with Jerry Lewis and Sinatra was going through a career change that took would take a dramatic upturn as well. If memory serves (but don't hold me to it), this predates the Ratpack by about a year.

In any event, this is a rare recording and you get to hear it first.

Thanks to everyone for a great 2009 - especially the crew at C&L. It's all been good fun, dusting off history.

Happy New Year - try and stay sane in the meantime. Wait til 2010!

Whatever Dean Martin took on, he never acted like he was working, it’s like he just showed up at the party with a drink in one hand, a smoke in the other, and a lot of attitude.

Hey pallies, likes we gotta begins this Dino-day 'fessin' up that today's Dino-gram to all youse Dino-holics ain't the one that we had planned to share, but, likes yester-Dino-day as we were doin' our almost daily search for Dino-devotion via our pallies at Twingly Advanced Blog Search we lovin'ly landed at the new-to-ilovedinomartin blog tagged "Ticket to Ride - Your Boarding Pass for Film, Music, Books and Current Events," where blogger Mr. Mike Miller has superbly scribed wonderfully wise words on our most beloved Dino that we simply had to share with all youse Dino-holics mucho mucho sooner then later.

In speakin' 'bout himself, Mr. Miller sez, "This is me.  I have lived in Kansas all of my life with the exception of one year.  Mostly, I have lived in NE Kansas.  I grew up in Lawrence, a progressive community, or known by some as the hotbed of radical thought.  Whatever.  It was a great place to grow up and is mostly responsible for my worldview and my values."  Likes as we deeply deeply delved into 'n digested Mike's Dino-devotion simply tagged "Dean Martin: 1960's Cool" we keenly know without a Dino-doubt that Miller valiantly values our most most beloved Dino!!!!!

Likes in these closin' hours of our touchin' 'n tender time of GIVIN' DINO THANKS, we feel beautifully blessed to have been led to Mike's reverent reflections....most hugely heartfelt indeed pallies, on our King of Cool.  Mike writes that "Dean Martin owed the 1960’s."  What we are guessin' that he meant to say is the our Dino OWNED the '60's, 'cause Mike goes on to solemnly share our Dino's multitude of awesome accomplishments in that 10 year period....movies, tv, recordin's and more!

We are incredibly impressed with this tremendous tribute to our Dino in purely powerful prose and potently perfect pixs.  Likes we coulda goes on and on ravin' on Mr. Mike Miller's deepest delight in our Dino, but we wants all youse to read his marvelous message for yourselves.  This is one of the bestest of best Dino-reflections that we have ever read and we shouts out our awesome appreciato to Mr. Mike Miller for this time ' talent in so openly and affirmatively sharin' his Dino-passion with his readership so that we coulda share it with the wider Dino-world.  To checks this out in it's original source, likes simply clicks on the tag of this Dino-report.

Dean Martin: 1960’s Cool

In a decade where the Beatles, Twiggy and Steve McQueen were regarded as hip and cool, Dean Martin was the rare middle aged personality that achieved success in a culture rapidly becoming taken over by a younger generation.  His popularity was huge.  At a time when rockers were dominating the charts, his recording of “Everybody Loves Somebody” knocked the Beatles from the Number 1 position.

Dean Martin owed the 1960’s.  As successful as he was in the previous decade, often with Jerry Lewis, the 1960’s provided Martin a top rated weekly television series, a number of highly successful record albums and singles, and his name above the title in 25 feature films.  Who else enjoyed that kind of success across different show business platforms?
Screen Shot 2016-06-10 at 11.57.00 AM
In 1964, The Dean Martin Show premiered as a musical-variety series. In those days, the TV landscape was dominated by the variety series, mixing music, dancing and sketch comedy.  Martin’s show ran for nine seasons, quite a remarkable feat.  Martin had access to the biggest names in show business, including his fellow Rat Pack members.  The show featured several ongoing segments including Martin entering by going down a fireman’s pole, surprise guests behind the door, and his spot of hopping onto Ken Lane’s piano for chat and a tune.  The show had a relaxed, zany quality brought about by Martin’s casual approach to hosting the show.  The man looked like he was always enjoying himself.  And why not?  His contract allowed him to skip most rehearsals and only show up for the day of taping.  He read his lines during sketches.  His look of surprise during the show was usually real, as he was experiencing the show like his audience members.  Pranks and unexpected things happened to Martin, much to the delight of the audience.  One such prank had Martin doing his usual jump onto the piano that suddenly collapsed in pieces, as pianist Lane played along with the joke.

Martin released 21 studio albums during the decade, in addition to live and great greatest hits albums.  He had songs on the Billboard charts throughout the decade, although his hits stopped coming by decade end as musical tastes and radio formats changed away from this style of music.  Over the decade, his  popular recordings included “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?” “Everybody Loves Somebody” “You’re Nobody till Somebody Loves You” and “I Will”.  Like his friend Frank Sinatra, Martin recorded for Capitol Records, but when Sinatra left to set up his own label, Reprise Records, Martin soon followed.
Martin had performed with Jerry Lewis in nightclubs and venues during their decade together, and he continued to do so as a single act.  He regularly appeared in Las Vegas, often with members of the Rat Pack, and was one of the most popular entertainers blending music and his smooth comedy delivery. He frequently appeared several times a year at the Sands, including 1960 when Martin and Rat Pack members shot Oceans 11 during the day and performed onstage at night.  In 1968, Martin took his act to the Riviera Hotel.
After the split with Jerry Lewis, Martin easily moved into a solo film career, and even though he was a big star, he often took co-starring roles. The Young Lions with Marlon Brando, Rio Bravo with John Wayne, Some Came Running with Sinatra, and Who Was that Lady? with Tony Curtis, are examples of where Martin was satisfied with playing the second lead.  For the rest of his career, Martin would alternate between being the first listed lead and sharing the screen with other actors.  He would re-team with Sands_Hotel_and_Casino_logoSinatra and John Wayne in several films during the 1960’s.  He alternated between Westerns and more topical fare, usually in lighthearted adult comedies about love and marriage.  Martin also took on the role of Matt Helm in four secret agent spoofs.

Martin, unlike John Wayne, Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen, had no qualms occasionally playing a villain or very flawed character, something that Burt Lancaster, Paul Newman and Robert Mitchum sometimes did.  Martin played a drunk sheriff in Rio Bravo, a lecherous singer in Kiss Me, Stupid, an outlaw in Bandolero!, and a ruthless town boss in Rough Night in Jericho.

Whatever Dean Martin took on, he never acted like he was working, it’s like he just showed up at the party with a drink in one hand, a smoke in the other, and a lot of attitude. His wisecracking drunk act was an effective one even late into his career.  He didn’t have a care in the world as the world seems to dance to his beat.  He projected a confidence and swagger, but not any arrogance.  He didn’t mind other actors or singers taking the lead or carrying the load while he added a joke or alternated with a verse.  He didn’t have to own the spotlight, the spotlight would find him.  If you see any of his Tonight Show appearances, he ties Johnny Carson in knots with his deadpan jokes and remarks.  Drink in hand, Martin is quick with his comments and takes over the show.  Despite the image he projected as being half in the bag, he is hitting on all cylinders.
My only criticism is that Martin stopped working at his craft.  He seemed to walk through many roles and preferred golf and other hobbies to rehearsal.  He was a busy man, look at his schedule, going from film sets to recording sessions, to his weekly series to nightclub appearances.   For someone who looked like he wasn’t working at it, he did give his best while he was “on.”  He had a gift for playing light comedy, and he brought believably to a dramatic role, when he wanted to.  Playing a character with flaws suited him. He could play a cad, an outlaw, a drunk, a man with questionable morals and a scammer. He didn’t have to always be the hero.

What made Dean Martin so cool?  In 1967 he turned 50 years old and was at the peak of his fame. In the decade of the Generation Gap, his weekly TV series attracted families and young viewers, his Matt Helm films were crossover hits, and even though his music was for an older audience, he did have chart success.  He never behaved like a big star, even though he was.  Dean Martin projected a sense of fun, of being a prankster, of never taking anything too seriously, including himself.
Retro is cool and with the passing of time, and the glow of nostalgia, Dean Martin has always been cool. Look no further than movies, TV or commercials, his songs are strewn across popular culture.  His image lives on in fashion ads and iconic photographs.   Trends change, but cool never goes out of fashion.
